A Gilbert couple with a background in comedy are hoping to give the East Valley something to laugh about.

David and Colleen Specht's new comedy troupe, called Valley Fever Improv, makes its debut 8 p.m. Saturday at Art on Boston, a contemporary art gallery in Chandler's historic downtown. Tickets are still available for the 90-minute show.

Billed as the South East Valley's version of the TV show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" the fast-paced, unscripted show is based on real-time audience suggestions. It's also family friendly; all ages are welcome to attend.

David trained at Chicago's Second City and Improv Olympic. He has performed in the Valley for eight years and worked as a director and teacher of improvisational comedy. Colleen has performed improv and stand-up comedy in the Valley since she was 16, including an opening for Politically Incorrect funnyman Bill Maher at the Tempe Improv. She also has a master's degree in education and works as an elementary-school teacher.

During Saturday's show, downtown wine bar and eatery Kokopelli Winery will sell wine and beer on site. Soft drinks and light refreshments will also be available for purchase.

The troupe plans to host shows monthly at the venue. The Spechts will also offer comedy and performance classes and workshops for children and adults.
