Think Queen Creek, and peaches come to mind. So do olives, lots of single-family homes and equestrian culture. West African drums, Chinese lion dances, Scottish bagpipers and Bollywood-style performances — not so much.

But those things will come together Saturday, when the town celebrates Passport to Discovery. The free community event combines culture, art, science and food.

Seven acts, from folklorico dancers to country singer Mary Hoffman, will perform non-stop on the Cultural Rhythms Stage.

Meanwhile, a Discovery Zone will feature a six-foot monitor lizard and other reptiles from the Phoenix Herpetological Society. Arizona State University’s Astro Devils will host a build-your-own-solar-system activity and point out sunspots via telescope. Friends of Horseshoe Park will provide some up-close encounters with farm animals.

There’s also an interactive mural project and a flight-related activity from Arizona Museum for Youth. Vendors will sell food, drink and specialty items.

DETAILS >> 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Desert Mountain Park, 22201 S. Hawes Road, Queen Creek. Free. (480) 358-3700 or
