The second "Blessing of the Bikes" rites will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Spring of Life Christian Church, 1330 S. Crismon Road, Mesa.
The event is sponsored by the Motorcycle Ministry of the church, founded in 1997. It declares itself a "nondenominational, come-as-you-are, no-obligation-to-stay-or-pay church." Worship services are 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. The bike blessing is expected to last about an hour.
Church spokesman Dan Bethel calls it a "place for everyone," including "bikers, bankers, tattoo junkies, teachers, goths, geeks, rock-'n'-rollers and retirees."
More than 300 bikers, including military veterans, are expected Sunday, Bethel said.
All cyclists' bikes will be blessed, the Bike Prayer will be shared, men and women of the military will be honored, and there will be recognition of police, fire and medical personnel. Ride pins will be given to the first 250 to arrive and free pocket "Biker Bibles" will be handed out to 100 people. Music is also planned. Afterwards, bikers are invited to join the Loops for the Troops road ride.
A lot reserved for bikers opens at 8:30 a.m. Bikers are encouraged to come in their road gear. Biker clubs or individuals can volunteer to help for the events by calling Bethel, (480) 620-1997 or www.springoflife.org.
