“Project Runway,” meet your match.

The “Soundsuits” of Chicago artist and Alvin Ailey-trained dancer Nick Cave are just as delightful to gaze upon as the hopeful creations of that TV show’s budding fashion designers — and you can see them in person, right here in the East Valley.

They’re on display through Nov. 29 in an exhibition called “Nick Cave: Meet Me at the Center of the Earth” at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.

Reminiscent of haute couture, the ceremonial costumes of shamans the world over and something out of Cirque du Soleil, the suits are both wearable dance costumes and stand-alone fine-art sculptures made from ordinary materials and scavenged flea-market finds. Think fabric, beads, feathers, twigs, human hair, metal, toys and those glimmery staples of extravagant dress — sequins.

The 34 colorful suits in the exhibition are sure to be like nothing you’ve ever seen.
