Fresh air? Check. Lovely place to sit? Check. Delicious food, live music, cold beverages and amusements to while away the afternoon? Checkity-check-check-check.

The makings of a mega-picnic will be unpacked this weekend at Scottsdale Civic Center. The Great Arizona Picnic, the most widely attended event of the annual Scottsdale Culinary Festival, gives the masses an excuse to loll on the grass, munching sample-sized portions from more than 50 food stations and enjoying the reverie.

Diversions include three stages of live music, five “specialty” areas focusing on ingredients like tequila, vodka or beer, an NBA basketball-themed experience area, and appearances by Travel Channel foodies Adam Richman (“Man v. Food”) and Andrew Zimmern (“Bizarre Foods”). An Epicurean Expo features kitchen gadgetry, chef demos and cocktail tips from “mixologists.”

DETAILS >> Noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Scottsdale Civic Center, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. $10 general admission, free for children 11 and younger and seniors 66 and older, $5 for military personnel. Food, beverages and entry to specialty areas or celebrity shows cost extra. VIP tickets are $50-$300 per person. (480) 945-7193 or www.scottsdalefest.org.
