Urban as it is, Tempe Town Lake can suddenly feel miles away from it all when you’re drifting way out from the shoreline in a slim little boat for one. It’s even better when you do it in the dark.
Tempe offers three “Moon Light Kayak” sessions on the lake this summer, the first at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Night-loving paddlers — who are supplied for the evening with a boat, paddle and life vest — get to explore the calm waters, taking in rippled reflections of twinkly lit buildings and streetlights beneath them, and the glow of the moon overhead.
No experience is necessary, and a list of acceptable clothing and footwear is available via www.tempe.gov/boating; click on “Kayaking” or “Frequently Asked Questions.”
Participants must be 18 or older. The city also offers Youth Paddling, Fitness Paddling and a Father’s Day Paddle. Information on those classes is available on the boating webpage or by phone.
