Being a loser from the East Valley could be a good thing. Three local residents will appear Tuesday on the finale of NBC's "The Biggest Loser: Couples." It's the same weight-loss reality show Mesa hair stylist Ali Vincent won in 2008, taking home a $250,000 prize for losing a total of 112 pounds and nearly 48 percent of her body weight.

Cousins Dane Patterson, a 27-year-old real estate appraiser from Mesa, and Blaine Cotter, a 27-year-old college counselor from Gilbert, will appear on the live episode, airing 7 p.m. Tuesday on Channel 12. The pair started the show at a combined weight of 755 pounds. Both lost weight while at the show's weight-loss ranch but were eliminated from the show earlier in the season. A second Mesa man, Filipe Fa, 26, will also appear. He and his cousin Sione Fa, 28, were perhaps best known for their blow-up at trainer Jillian Michaels and teary allegiance to trainer Bob Harper. Filipe is a lube technician; Sione, who's from Maricopa, owns a landscaping company. Each lost more than 100 pounds before they were voted off the show.

The Valley-area contestants are competing for a $100,000 prize for eliminated contestants. The cash will go to the one who has lost the most weight on their own since being voted out of the competition.
