LOS ANGELES - Maybe Bai Ling can plead a broken heart. The Chinese actress was charged Monday with petty theft for allegedly shoplifting a pack of batteries and two Star magazines at Los Angeles International Airport.

Ling faces a $250 fine for trying to take free-of-charge $16.22 worth of items, said city attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan.

Her arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday, when Ling could contest the misdemeanor infraction or pay the fine, Mateljan said.

An e-mail message sent to Ling's agent was not immediately returned.

Ling, who has appeared in such films as "The Crow" and "Anna and the King," was arrested Feb. 13 after she was detained by a store employee who summoned police.

She later told E! News that she was having an "emotionally crazy" day because she and her boyfriend broke up right before Valentine's Day.

She recently posted a message on her blog that she is shooting a film in Albuquerque.

"Shooting and living in a movie is magic, only wish that my love is here with me," she wrote.
