Country music doesn’t leap to mind when you hear Ke$ha’s quirky half-sung, half-rapped electro-pop songs about puking in a closet at Paris Hilton’s house, getting betrayed by a friend who was “fronting,” or discovering a boyfriend cheated with a famous starlet.
But the 23-year-old, whose mother made a living as a songwriter in Nashville, grew up loving the music of Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, and Patsy Cline, and she counts Bob Dylan’s “Nashville Skyline” as one of her all-time favorite albums.
>> Ke$ha will perform at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Marquee Theatre, 730 N. Mill Ave., Tempe. $36. (480) 829-0607 or www.luckymanonline.com.
