Oil up your peg legs and polish your tiaras, kids. You could win a prize for being Chandler's best-dressed pirate or princess.

The city will host a free costume party beginning 5 p.m. Friday at downtown's Dr. A.J. Chandler Park. The event centers around an outdoor screening of the movie "The Princess Bride," which families are invited to watch for free from their own blankets and lawn chairs. The movie will be preceded at 5 p.m. by live music from the Better Half Duo band. The costume parade, for children ages 5 to 8, is at 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for best girl and boy costumes.

"The prizes are really good. I can't tell you what they are, but they're good prizes," says Eileen Brill Wagner, director of Downtown Chandler Community Partnership.

The group hosted a similar event with a superheroes theme last May, says Wagner. It was so popular, they decided to do it again.

Dr. A.J. Chandler Park is at 3 S. Arizona Ave.; that's just south of Chandler Boulevard.
