Back in the early '90s, MC Hammer - and his trademark parachute pants - were the biggest things in music. His 1990 album "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em" became the first rap record to earn Diamond status, and MTV credits him with bringing rap music to mainstream popularity.

Hammer - who's also been a bat boy for the Oakland A's, a preacher, a reality-TV star and, most recently, CEO of a mixed martial arts management company - performs in the Valley with another blast from the past: '90s girl group SWV. Free fireworks follow the show.

MC Hammer will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at Fort McDowell Casino, 10424 N. Fort McDowell Road, Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. $25-$40. (480) 837-1424 or www.fortmcdowellcasino.com.
