A little charter school in the heart of downtown Mesa is welcoming back one of its own — Brooke White, the 2008 “American Idol” finalist and Mesa native.

The former nanny, now a recording artist in California, will host a benefit concert today for her alma mater, Heritage Academy. Proceeds from the event will support the school.

Current and former Heritage students will perform, and so will White, playing songs from her new album in the second half of the show.

White, who is part of the duos Jack and White and The Girls With Glasses Show, announced earlier this month that she is expecting her first child. The 27-year-old organized the concert with Heritage Academy teacher Rick Dalton.

DETAILS >> 7 p.m. Friday. Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St. $10-$50. (480) 644-6500 or www.mesaartscenter.com.
