2012 Primary Election Information

On April 23, 2012, the Mesa City Council adopted Resolution 10017 calling a Primary Election for Aug. 28, 2012, and a General Election (Runoff Election if needed), on Nov. 6, 2012.

This resolution outlines the purpose of the elections, designates the deadline for voter registration and establishes the times that polls will be open. To access the resolution calling the Primary and General Elections, please click on the link provided below.

The purpose of the Primary Election is for voters citywide to elect a Mayor and for voters in Districts 1, 2 and 3 to elect District Councilmembers whose terms will expire in January 2017.

Mesa's non-partisan Primary Election is being held in conjunction with the State's partisan Primary.

In accordance with the City Charter, if a candidate for the office of Mayor receives at the Primary Election the number of votes constituting a majority of all of the valid ballots cast for the office of Mayor, that candidate will be declared elected without running at the General Election. In addition, if a candidate for District Councilmember receives at the Primary Election the number of votes constituting a majority of all of the valid ballots cast for the office of Councilmember in that District, that candidate will be declared elected without running at the General Election.

If you have any questions, please call the City Clerk's Office at (480) 644-4868.
