Parents with sick kids in the East Valley have a new option when they need care.

Gilbert-based Arizona ProHealth LLC has partnered with Maxwell Preschool Academy in Mesa to open a “sick bay,” housed in a separate part of the school. Ill children will be cared for by a licensed caregiver, such as a licensed nurse practitioner. Dr. Eric R. Hampton, a family practice physician for 10 years, is the founder of the program.

Children enrolled at Maxwell can attend free of charge. Service for the public is $35 a day.

Because of the connection with his medical practice, Hampton and his staff will also be able to make a diagnosis and provide a prescription if needed.

Children between 6 weeks of age and 15 years old with mild illnesses will be accepted. The first “sick bay” is open at 2750 S. Dobson Road and can hold four children daily. A second will open later this month at Maxwell academy’s Chandler location, with more planned in the future, Hampton said.

Information: (480) 831-7970.

A great concept, although a little pricey for non-members. Not much availability at present either. Would love to this see service expanded with friendlier fees.
