GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) — If you have black powder, old weapons, grenades or other explosives sitting at home, the Pima County Sheriff's Department would prefer you call them first and let them handle it.
Green Valley substation commander Lt. Deanna Coultas says in the past month the sheriff's department has had to twice evacuate the substation when well-meaning people brought explosives in.
The Green Valley News reports the items were black gunpowder and a grenade that appeared to be a souvenir from World War I.
Coultas says Pima County residents who own or discover explosives and want them disposed of should call 9-1-1. The department also asks residents not to take their weapons or explosives to household hazardous waste pickup sites either.
