A judge is considering an Arizona legislator's appeal of an order that he be removed from office for violating state campaign finance laws.
Judge Crane McClennen of Maricopa County Superior Court took the case of Republican Rep. Doug Quelland of Phoenix under advisement after hearing arguments Monday.
The Citizens Clean Elections Commission in May 2009 ordered that Quelland be removed from office for padding his publicly funded 2008 campaign with private spending. An administrative law judge upheld the commission's ruling in November.
Quelland maintains he did nothing wrong. He remains in office pending his appeal.
McClennen in April denied Quelland's request for a new trial and instead ruled that he would hear Quelland's case as an appeal.
