Thank you Rep. Smith. It is good to know there are elected servants out there that know that they were put in office to protect the will of the people, not to further a socialist agenda and strip Americans of every freedom the Constitution provides.

Smith seems on the verge of committing sedition against the federal government. He may really want a vacation at Gitmo, though.

Is there NO sane member of the GOP in AZ that can stop this clown? What he plans is ILLEGAL, and will NEVER hold up in court!

Its not insane, its a states rights assertion over its jurisdiction and citizens vs over-reaching federal powers of a president who would be king. Sure, threaten him with Gitmo. That only goes to illustrate more clearly the sad state of affairs in the USA where congress and a president have also acted in unison to pass an unconstitutional Act such as the NDAA this year authorizing the secret tribunal to be set up under the president to label Americans as enemies of the state and arrest Americans without charges, or a trial, and haul them off to a prison like Gitmo to be held for an indefinite length of time. Does that sound like America or a totalitarian dictatorship like the USSR, Communist China, or Nazi Germany? Whats being done within the federal government in the name of SAFETY is TREASON and violates the US Constitution. Arizona is not the only state to take action to stand against the over-reaching of the federal government in this respect. Do your homework. There are several other states including but not limited to Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Utah, Wyoming, etc., who have passed or are in the process of passing similar laws. Smith is in good company, he's not the Lone Ranger.

    Paranoia................... will destroy ya.
I'm not especially fond of the proposed restrictions, but, for me as a gun owner, they will not affect my ownership or enjoyment of my personal arsenal.
I don't need 15 round clips to hit my intended target.

Maybe Smith could take a page from his "Build our own immigration fence" law he got passed two years ago (to date, he's rounded up enough moolah to build almost 1/4 of a mile) and build a wall around the state to keep those Feds out. I'm sure the gun absolutists would be happy to chip in.

how is this different from horne and brewer not wanting to enforce the will of the people with medical marijuana. not wanting the feds to be able to prosecute state officials for violating federal law. now the state will be prosecuting federal officials for violating state law? and yes i read the statement about working this out in court. more lawsuits and state money paid. follow the money?

Let's just secede. We don't need those pesky feds anyway.

Arizona never learns...Fed trumps state. State rights was over when the South lost the Civil war. I think it's way past time to realize that for the tiny-brained right wingers who try it every election.

Don't like the Federal Government of the United States. Move.

Smith isn't providing leadership ... see EVT story on appliance store employee being shot ... a result of bad leadership.

I just emailed my representatives asking they support this bill.

I am a proud veteran and firearm owner. I truly believe that firearm ownership in this city has minimized criminal activity. Having grown up back east, I was deeply impressed with the openness and acceptance of firearms in Arizona.

I am appalled by the atrocities committed recently; however, legislation will not prevent these items from occurring. Criminals and mentally disturbed do not follow society's norms or laws.

I purchased all my firearms within the policies of both Federal and State law, and completely support any legislation which allows me to keep my personal property.

A sincere thank you to the representatives who support the law abiding Arizona people.

As Dedzone points out, Fed law trumps state, so if by some miracle any new regulation escapes Congress and becomes law, Smith essentially is calling for nullification.

Ironic, since Smith has also introduced a bill to require all high school seniors to swear an oath of loyalty to the Constitution as a graduation requirement.

Maybe Smith should do the same.
