Authorities say a man tried to break into the state Republican Party's headquarters in Phoenix, smashing a window next to the front door before leaving the scene.
A security video of the incident early Wednesday shows a man in a flannel shirt pacing back and forth outside the party's office before breaking the front window with a rock and then leaving the scene. The man never entered the building and authorities say he caused about $300 in damages.
Republicans believe the headquarters' alarm system prevented the would-be burglar from gaining access. The party sent out a news release Friday claiming the man was so eager to register as a Republican that he was literally busting down their doors.
