PHOENIX — Arizonans on Tuesday voted for Mitt Romney in a state that has a long history of supporting Republican presidential candidates.
Democrats eyeing the presidency generally don't invest heavily in the state, which now has 11 electoral votes. Arizona has been won by Democrats only once since 1948 — during Bill Clinton's re-election bid in 1996.
Obama poured no resources into Arizona in 2008 when home state Republican John McCain was his opponent. But he opened six campaign offices in Arizona and visited the state earlier this year.
Obama's campaign also reached out to Hispanic voters by dispatching volunteers to communities with large Latino populations.
Arizona's electorate is now split nearly evenly between Republicans, Democrats and independents, although the GOP controls the governor's office, congressional delegation and state Legislature.
Obama's sole visit to Arizona this year came in January to Intel's manufacturing facility in Chandler to talk about improving the economy. The first lady and Vice President Joe Biden also made stops in Arizona this year.
Romney held a round-table discussion with Hispanic and community leaders earlier this year ahead of a rally in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa. The visit came a month after Obama's trip.

Mitt can go back to making his millions of dollars a year by taking advantage of his status as a multi-millionaire.
