Mesa resident John Rhode was announced the winner Tuesday night on NBC's "The Biggest Loser."
Rhode, a Desert Ridge High School football coach, was one of three finalists when Tuesday's live show began. He started the show - filming started last summer - at 445 pounds. By losing 220 pounds over the past few months, he beat out former NFL player Antone Davis and Ramon Medeiros for the title and $250,000.
Rhode teaches special education in the Gilbert Unified School District, along with his coaching duties at Desert Ridge High School in Mesa.
Rhode told the Tribune in September that he went to the casting call last spring out of a desire to live life "to its fullest," with his wife of 18 years and their two adopted young boys.
