TUCSON - Officials say a Tucson police officer stuck and killed a pedestrian who stepped out in front of his patrol car early Wednesday.
The officer was driving on East Broadway Boulevard when a man walked in front of his car just after 4 a.m. Police Capt. Clayton Kidd says the officer didn't see the man until just before his cruiser struck him. Officer Timothy Coussens swerved but couldn't avoid the unidentified man.
Kidd says Coussens is upset and concerned about what happened. He's been placed on leave while the accident is investigated.
The officer was on duty but wasn't responding to a call.
