Authorities say a Phoenix man arrested in a wrong-way accident early Wednesday on the Loop 101 freeway had a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit.
Authorities say 31-year-old Michael Chicharello has been booked into jail for aggravated assault, endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident. He's being held on a $90,000 bond.
They say a preliminary breathalyzer showed Chicharello had a 0.252 blood-alcohol content level. That's well above the 0.08 percent legal limit to operate a vehicle in Arizona.
A state Department of Public Safety officer, James Waltermire, crashed his patrol car into Chicharello's vehicle to stop him on the Loop 101 freeway in northwest Glendale. The officer suffered minor injuries.
