(AP) — The Phoenix Coyotes trimmed their preseason roster to 35 by sending 18 players to their AHL affiliate in Portland and returning three others to junior teams in Canada.

Sent to Portland's training camp on Thursday were goaltender Marc Cheverie plus defensemen Mathieu Brodeur, Nick Ross, Garrett Stafford and Michael Stone.

Also assigned to the Pirates were forwards Mathieu Beaudoin, Spencer Bennett, Evan Bloodoff, Alexandre Bolduc, Darian Dziurzynski, Brett Hextall, Ryan Hollweg, Colin Long, Donny Maloney, Brendan Shinnimin, Jordan Szwarz, Matt Watkins and Ethan Werek.

Coyotes general manager Don Maloney says goaltender Mark Visentin was returned to Niagara of the OHL, Louis Dominque to Quebec of the QMJHL and forward Kale Kessy to Medicine Hat of the WHL.
